FIREFLY MUSIC FESTIVAL 2016

10:56:00 AM

Firefly 2016. Oh my goodness. What an absolute dream you were. One of the best weekends of my life.  The music, the company, the weather, the atmosphere. It was all a fantasy.

I've said it so many times before, but live music is my favorite thing in the entire world.  There is nothing I love more than that feeling of music shaking you to your core. I'll never get enough of it.

Concerts are like my addiction.  I spend way too much money but I can't get enough of the feeling.  And music festivals are like an overdose of this happiness, excitement, complete bliss that I feel when I hear live music. It rocks.

I'd say after three years at Firefly Music Festival that I am pretty much a festival veteran, and, yes I will be sad to not go to Firefly next year, but I will undoubtedly be at other shows, eyes closed, swaying back and forth, to the sounds that grab my soul.

So thank you Firefly, for my three favorite summers ever.  I wouldn't trade the memories, sounds, feelings, and friends for anything.

There were so many incredible moments that the entire weekend was really just one big highlight reel but if I had to name a few...

-Tame Impala. One of the top three best concerts I've ever been to.  The lights, confetti, visuals, Kevin Parker, everything. I can't even put into words how truly happy, stoked, dazed, and speechless I was.

-Third row for M83 where the bass blew out our ear drums in the most painfully awesome way.

-The remarkable surprise of how RAD Louis the Child was.

-Crowdsurfing at Major Lazer.

-Throwing glowsticks inside the tent when we couldn't get enough of Deadmau5's set.

-Peanut butter sandwiches at 3am with my best friends.

firefly music festival 2015

1:00:00 AM

Another epic weekend has come and gone, but this time I am left with terrible PCD (post-concert depression). It's real. Trust me.

Between June 18th and the 21st, I was dancing the days into nights, singing at the top of my pitchy lungs, and (like usual with live music) having the time of my life.  And I can happily say the second time at firefly music festival was just as fun as the first.

The days were long and HOT, the music was perfectly diverse, the performances were rad, and the company was great.  So until next year, here's a quick, short recap on the weekend!

Fave Performances:

  • Foster the People - my all-time favorite band and the third time I've seen them! They never disappoint. Never. And hello to Mark Pontius who has somehow managed to become even more attractive.
  • Paul McCartney - just super cool. Unreal to see such a tiny little body rocking on stage that has had such an unparalleled impact on the music industry.
  • Clean Bandit - I was so greatly, and happily surprised. Bravo Bandit, bravo.
  • Hozier - holy cow, homeboy has SOUL. A really really enjoyable performance.
  • Matt & Kim - now they know how to party.
  • Cage the Elephant - all I have to say is: Matt Shultz, please marry me. Or at least take me on tour with y'all.

Highlights:
  • Matt Shultz. Enough said.
  • Crowd Surfing??? Always a must at a festival.
  • Head cutouts. By far their best year yet.
  • Lights and pyrotechnics.
  • Joining 89,999 other people in singing "Na na na's" during Paul's performance of Hey Jude.
Lowlights:
  • Rain (and thus, mud).
  • Hygiene (honestly, I don't know if hygiene was even existent over the weekend).
  • Water. There was none.
  • The tornado winds and thunderstorms that rolled in and cancelled the rest of Saturday night's shows.
