the sister food tours of NYC

Once you accept the fact that you will be spending money, New York City truly becomes the tastiest oyster...

My lovely sister recently visited my tiny flat in Manhattan, and aside from sharing nights of endless laughter and people-watching on New York's most glamorous rooftops, we began an epic food tour of the city. Although my sister's visit was short, we managed to munch on everything from natural plant-based lemonades to less-than-mediocre 99 cent slices.

Our tour began on Friday afternoon with a delightful visit to Jack's Wife Freda in Greenwich Village. Jack's Wife Freda never disappoints. She is clean, cute and makes some badass breakfast bowls complete with sun-dried tomatoes, spaghetti squash and mean scrambled eggs.

We split a carafe of rose that was perfect for the sunny afternoon.

We marched around SoHo, popping in boutiques and designer stores alike. Eventually we wandered to COOKIE DO NYC where we couldn't even finish a small cup of confetti cookie dough. It was tasty, but I must admit that I whip up a better batch.

Our next food adventure was for the following day. A quick ride on the L train dropped us right out front of my most favorite place among these five boroughs - Smorgasburg. No matter how many times I frequent this festival, I must continue to do a full loop before making a decision on what I want to eat. This time, I laid down six bucks for The_Base's lemonade with a blueberry sauce. Sipping this sweet treat that was lined with rose petals was the perfect refreshment during my coveted loop.

Craving the perfect combination of bread and meat - we decided on Bolivian sliders. One brisket and one chicken. It is safe to say that we each ate ours in under a minute, but we were definitely rushed by the fact that grease was dripping down our fingers.

That same day we travelled back to the main island to visit Mr. Purple for a house IPA and a gorgeous skyline view. The IPA was a 6/10 and gains an extra point for the rooftop garnish.

Larsen and I were stuffed with beer and festival food for the rest of the day, so our food adventure had to resume the next day. Coveted Scarr's Pizza on the Lower East Side was the move.

I have had quite a few single slices across NYC since moving here, and I must say, Scarr's lives up to its name and reputation. A single slice has the perfect amount of sauce, is just shy of the perfect amount of cheese, and has a sturdy crust that won't scratch your gum. All around a 9/10. I'm avoiding giving it a 10 since the environment and the commute to obtain said slice is quite a nuisance.
